Political trial of a migrant representative from Mexico City for asking the US to intervene in Mexico

Five days ago, Mexicans on both sides of the border listened in astonishment to the following exhortation in English: “…And from the Congress of Mexico City, I call upon the international community, the European Parliament, and the United States Congress to raise their voices about what is happening in Mexico. Unfortunately, [Andres Manuel] Lopez Obrador left behind a narco-state, and there are many Mexicans who are calling for help.” The person who made this call for US military intervention in Mexico, with the support of the international community and European nations, is Raul de Jesus Torres Guerrero, a young local deputy from Mexico City and a member of the National Action Party (PAN). He is around 35 years old, and when he was about five, his father (of Peruvian origin) and his mother (of Mexican origin) emigrated to the United States, where he received his political and academic training. It violates all standards of conduct and professional ethics expected of a public servant. He is asking the US to invade our homeland again, ignoring all the previous military interventions by Spanish, English, French, and American armies, who 177 years ago seized more than half of our national territory. I repeat, this behavior is not only dangerous because it occurs at a time when President Trump insists on taking military action against Mexico, arguing that it would be to eliminate the organized crime cartels operating in the country, which his administration has labeled as terrorists, to justify the possibility of an invasion of the national territory at any moment. Anywhere in the world, attacking the independence, sovereignty, justice, democracy, and freedom of a country, as Congressman Raul Torres is doing with respect to Mexico, constitutes high treason. This was the case when Napoleonic France imposed Maximilian of Habsburg as emperor, with the approval of Mexican conservatives. It is important to remind the local migrant representative that the Constitution specifies that treason against the nation is punishable by up to 40 years in prison, as this crime is one of the most serious against national security. Furthermore, it is unacceptable that the PAN member took advantage of the highest legislative platform of the Mexico City Legislative Branch to make irresponsible and scathing judgments against who, in my opinion, is the best President of the Republic of contemporary Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO). His assertion that the former president bequeathed a “narco-state” to Mexicans is reprehensible and dishonest. Furthermore, he irresponsibly attacks President Claudia Sheinbaum, who currently enjoys over 70% approval among Mexicans. It is a disgrace for Mexicans, but especially for those of us who live and work in the US, to have elected representatives with the cynicism that characterizes the PAN party, whose corruption and clear denationalizing orientation have been largely responsible for the nation's decline, due to their association with organized crime, drug lords, and national and transnational capital to plunder the country, their boundless corruption, and their racism and classism. The Fox and Calderon administrations deprived the people of rights and necessities they rightfully deserved. Therefore, it is no surprise that in Mexico there are individuals with such profound cynicism that they deceive themselves, like the local migrant congressman Torres Guerrero, whose subservient policies are condemned by a patriotic, nationalist Mexican people who have personally suffered the consequences of the invasions the nation has endured. It is worth noting that Mexico is the most invaded country in the world, and to gain a precise understanding of what these foreign incursions on our soil have meant, one must visit the Museum of Interventions in Mexico City. Mexican conservatives have always looked favorably upon foreign invaders who outrage the people and the homeland and desecrate the tricolor flag. That PAN deputy in question would be overjoyed if the Star-Spangled Banner were flying from the monumental flagpole in Mexico City's Zocalo. Furthermore, this unpatriotic act occurs within the context of a conservative onslaught, waged by PRI and PAN members against the government of the Fourth Transformation. Thus, we have the so-called Generation Z march, the demonstrations by farmers and truckers, which occur one after another. These are expressions that transcend the limits of freedom of speech and descend into violence, provocation, and serious harm to citizens and the economy. These actions, which theorists consider an attempted soft coup, aim to destabilize and remove Morena and its allies from power, will not succeed because the Party has the overwhelming support of the conscious Mexican people. Therefore,Mexican citizens residing abroad have begun collecting signatures demanding that the Mexico City Congress initiate impeachment proceedings to remove this migrant legislator from office, whom we consider a traitor to the nation. Faced with the threat against Mexico from an ultra-right-wing figure like Trump and his conservative Mexican allies from the PRI and PAN parties, we, the progressive Mexicans both within and outside the country, must close ranks and reject the enemies of our homeland, our people, and our principles, which stem from the best of the struggles of our founding fathers and are embodied in the Fourth Transformation. Let it be clear: we Mexicans residing in the US stand with Mexico, with its people, and with the Fourth Transformation. It must also be recognized that among the migrants there are a handful of conservatives with PAN and PRI DNA, whom history has already devoured. We Mexican migrants are a fundamental asset to the government of the Republic and to our people. That is why we want to be heard and taken into account, because we have a lot to contribute in these difficult times and at all times. Count on us. A hug from one fellow countryman to all fellow countrymen and women.
