Sheinbaum calls to celebrate with respect during Mexico's match against Ecuador
The Mexican president indicated that she understands the "joy" of Mexicans but asked that the celebrations be carried out responsibly
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, asked this Tuesday to celebrate with “respect” and “responsibility” during the World Cup round of 32 match between the Mexican and Ecuadorian teams in the country's capital, after the massive gatherings since the start of the international tournament.
“It is important to always respect everyone else and also to pick up their trash when they leave,” declared the president in her daily press conference, in reference to the tons of waste that fans left in the celebrations after the last victories of the Mexican team in the 2026 World Cup.
In this sense, Sheinbaum pointed out that he understands the “joy”, but called on Mexicans to be “respectful” after, on Monday night, fans gathered near the hotel where the Ecuador team was staying to sing different songs.
Likewise, the president recalled that the garbage left behind by the celebrations has to be collected by cleaning workers, although she stressed that there has been a “white balance” in terms of victims and that more than 800,000 people have participated in the celebrations.
"Let it be done responsibly. We trust the Mexicans who will do it responsibly," he insisted.
Mexico will face Ecuador this Tuesday in their round of 32 match of the World Cup, which will take place at the Mexico City Stadium (formerly known as Azteca), so massive celebrations are expected if the Mexican team makes it to the round of 16. EFE
