Real Madrid suffered a major blow after it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out of action for more than two months.

The English right-back, who was enjoying his best form since joining the club on June 12, suffered a muscle injury to the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps.

Real Madrid confirms the injury in an official statement

The club made the news public through a medical statement:

“Following tests carried out today on our player Trent Alexander-Arnold by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps,” the club detailed on its website.

The injury occurred this Wednesday at San Mames, where the defender had to leave the field in the 54th minute, abruptly ending a streak of four consecutive starts.

Alexander-Arnold had established himself as an important player within the team after overcoming a long-term muscle injury—this one to the biceps femoris of the same left leg—that had kept him sidelined. He was out from September 16th to October 26th.

His return was gradual, accumulating minutes in special venues like Anfield (10 minutes) and Vallecas (8 minutes), before regaining his best form during November.

Which matches will Alexander-Arnold miss for Real Madrid?

The estimated recovery time of more than two months means that Trent will miss:

The situation seriously complicates Xabi Alonso's plans, as Dani Carvajal continues to recover from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will not return until 2026.

This leaves the team without natural right-backs, reopening the possibility of Fede Valverde occupying that position, as he has done on previous occasions.
