Devin Haney wants the rematch with Garcia: 'It would be redemption'
Devin Haney commented that he will support Garcia in his next fight against Mario Barrios so that he can be crowned champion and both can have a huge duel
Devin Haney, World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, stated that he wants a rematch with Ryan Garcia to seek redemption.
In statements to FightHub TV, Haney commented that he will support Garcia in his next fight against Mario Barrios so he can be crowned champion and they can both have a huge duel.
“Of course, that (the rematch against Garcia) would be redemption. Just as he was supporting me, I will be supporting him. I want him to win and I believe the stars will align for us to have a huge fight. I really want my redemption against Ryan Garcia,” he said.
Remember that Devin Haney was crowned champion by defeating Brian Norman Jr. last weekend in Saudi Arabia and, if Ryan Garcia does the same against Barrios - the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion - the rematch between them could be even bigger than the first, since there would be titles on the line.
In the first fight, Garcia knocked Haney down three times with his left hook and ended up winning by majority decision in April 2024. King Ry's crushing victory - which was later changed to No Contest due to doping - over The Dream made fans doubt his abilities in the ring and whether he could return after this.
Haney decided to drop the lawsuit. he filed against Garcia for assault and fraud (due to the Californian's positive test for ostarine), as they had reached an agreement to face each other for a second time in October of this year thanks to Turki Alalshikh.
Since King Ry lost the fight against Rolando 'Rolly' Romero and Haney achieved victory against Jose Ramirez, the second fight between the two fell through.
Devin Haney, 27, successfully returned to the ring after his controversial fight against Ryan Garcia in April 2024 by defeating Jose Ramirez. The American has a record of 32 wins, 15 of them by knockout, and one no contest.
For his part, Ryan Garcia, 27, lost for the second time in his career against Rolly Romero in his last fight. The Mexican-American has a record of 24 wins (20 by knockout),Two losses and one does not answer as a professional.
