The leader passed away at 52 years old after a heart attack; he left a legacy of titles and social projects at the club
Orison Amaya, the leader of Marathon, passed away this Monday at the age of 52 from a heart attack, according to Rolando Mauricio Pena, the institution's vice president.
" We are extremely saddened because it is very tough news for the home, for us who lived with him every day," Pena told reporters.
The team seriously regretted" the passing of our president, but also of a man who loved our colors with all his soul," the team wrote on social media. Every lover, story, and green-and-white dream will leave a legacy that Joe Orinson Amaya will cherish forever.
Following Yankel Rosenthal's withdrawal, Amaya assumed the presidency of Marathon in December 2015. She concentrated on rebuilding a team that is burdened with debt, donors, and various legal issues.
The group ended an eight-year subject drought under his guidance by winning the 2018 Clausura tournament. Additionally, he was in charge of cultural and sporting initiatives to help foster fresh talent and strengthen the neighborhood.
Marathon, one of Honduras ' most significant clubs, celebrated its centennial on November 25th. It was founded in San Pedro Sula in 1925. It has won nine national championships and is the only team from Honduran who has its own facility, the Yankel Rosenthal, which can accommodate 5,000 spectators. Argentinian Pablo Lavallen is now running the Apertura tournament, and Marathon is officially tied for second place with 39 points, simply to lose to Olimpia, who has 40.
