The Mexican boxer is in negotiations to finalize his return to professional activity in the super lightweight division. According to reports from the specialized press, Isaac Pitbull Cruz will seek to recover the World Boxing Association (WBA) championship that he held in the past.

The possible confrontation would place the athlete against the current champion of the category, Gary Antuanne Russell, on a card tentatively scheduled for the end of the summer in the United States.

Journalist Salvador Rodríguez, from the ESPN network, shared details about the negotiations through his official social networks: "Sources revealed to ESPN KNOCKOUT that Gary Antuanne Russell will be presenting the WBA super lightweight title against Isaac 'Pitbull Cruz' on a date to be designated. There is talk of August 22 or September 5 in Las Vegas."

The panorama at 140 pounds

Currently, Pitbull Cruz holds the interim 140-pound championship by the World Boxing Council (WBC), a distinction that he defended last December with a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. The Mexican fighter's work team has not issued a statement on the regulatory implications that competing for the WBA title would have as interim monarch of the WBC.

The Aztec fighter's inactivity of more than six months led to various rumors in the sporting environment, including a possible rematch against Gervonta Davis. Likewise, reports emerged about a technical restructuring that would separate the athlete from his father to join Eddy Reynoso's gym, although Pitbull Cruz's management has not confirmed these modifications in his work corner.

The goal of recovering the crown

The WBA 140-pound belt represents a well-known goal for the boxer from Mexico City, who won it after defeating Rolando Romero and later gave it up in his first exhibition against José Valenzuela. If the agreement with Russell is finalized in the coming weeks, Pitbull Cruz will begin a preparation camp focused on regaining his position as absolute champion in the division.
