The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) confirmed this Tuesday the rescheduling of two international matches originally scheduled for this week in Colombia, after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake registered on Monday and which led the Colombian Government to declare the situation a "national disaster."

The measure affects matches corresponding to the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.

The South American organization reported, through its Competitions and Operations Directorate, that the match between Deportes Tolima and Independiente del Valle will no longer be played on the initially scheduled date. The match was moved to Tuesday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m. local time at the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium in Ibagué, the same venue that appeared in the original programming.

The series will be completed on August 25 at 7:30 p.m. local time at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium in Quito, Ecuador.

The decision was announced a day after the strong earthquake that shook large areas of the country.

Santa Fe-River Plate also changes date

The other modification corresponds to the Copa Sudamericana. The match between Santa Fe and River Plate, originally scheduled for Wednesday in Bogotá, was postponed and will be played on August 19 at 7:30 p.m. local time at the El Campín Stadium.

The second leg was set for August 26 at 9:30 p.m. local time at the Estadio Mâs Monumental in Buenos Aires.

With these decisions, Conmebol adjusted the continental calendar to allow both matches to take place next week.

The earthquake left dozens of cities affected

Monday's earthquake was felt in Bogotá, Cali, Popayán, Manizales, Armenia, Pereira, Medellín and other cities in central and western Colombia. There were also reports of perception of the movement in Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela.

This Tuesday, Colombian authorities updated the official death toll to 181 people. However, reports released by regional authorities raise the number of deaths to at least 240.

The emergency led the Government to declare a state of national disaster and continues to generate consequences in different areas of the country, including the international sports calendar.

Conmebol did not announce additional changes in other competitions and limited itself to communicating the new dates of the affected matches in Colombia.
