Despite European troops arriving in Greenland in a show of support, as leaders rushed to respond to Donald Trump's threats, the Republican did not stop his comments.

Trump pressed ahead with his goal of "conquering" European territory, said Denmark's top diplomat after a high-risk meeting in Washington on Wednesday.

“I don't believe that the presence of troops in Europe influences the president's decision-making process, nor that it affects in any way his objective of acquiring Greenland,” explained White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The press secretary's comments come after Denmark, which owns the autonomous territory of Greenland, announced an immediate increase in its military presence on the island, as well as in military exercises there, in order to alleviate Washington's concerns about the security of the island and the Arctic region.

Sweden, Norway, and Germany have joined the initiative and will also send troops to Greenland, coveted by the Trump administration with the argument of strengthening its “national security” and preventing it from falling into the hands of China or Russia.

In addition, on Wednesday, US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio received the Minister of [unclear] at the White House. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, met. The meeting resulted in the creation of a working group that the foreign ministers of Copenhagen and Nuuk believe will address the “disagreements” with Washington. However, Leavitt clarified the function of this working group in his statements today. “It was a good meeting, and both sides agreed to establish a working group composed of people who will continue to hold technical discussions on the acquisition of Greenland,” she noted. The spokesperson indicated that she was aware that the talks between the three parties would take place “every two or three weeks,” and insisted that Trump “has made his priority very clear: he wants the United States to acquire Greenland.”
