The incumbent state leader, Gavin Newsom, and former United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, spoke out in favor of the Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra for governor of California in the November general election.
Newsom and Harris' statements were released after confirmation that Republican Steve Hilton will be Becerra's opponent in the general election after placing second in the June 2 primary.
After counting 90.5% of the ballots counted, Xavier Becerra is in the lead with 27.9% (2,390,780 votes), followed by Hilton with 25% (2,137,993 votes).
