The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) began the 2026-2027 school year this Monday, but it did so with a drastic drop in its student enrollment, a situation that occurs in other school districts in California.
LAUSD student enrollment peaked in the 2002-2003 school year, when 724,113 students enrolled.
However, since then, the number of students has decreased drastically, reaching an enrollment of 375,661 students for the 2026-2027 school year.
