One person died after a light aircraft crashed Tuesday night near Chandler Airport, in the state of Arizona, authorities reported.

The Chandler Fire Department indicated that emergency crews responded after receiving a 911 call alerting about a downed aircraft.

Rescuers coordinated with the airport control tower to confirm the location of the accident and go to the impact site.

According to local network KNXV, an ABC News affiliate in Phoenix, the accident occurred around 7:50 p.m., near the intersection of McQueen Road and Queen Creek Road.

The only occupant died at the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency crews located an aircraft with a single occupant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not revealed the identity of the pilot while the corresponding notifications are made to his family.

The Fire Department reported that it is working jointly with Chandler Airport authorities, the Chandler Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to clarify the circumstances of the accident.

To date, the possible causes of the accident have not been revealed nor has it been reported whether there were mechanical or meteorological factors that could have contributed to the crash.

Authorities indicated that the investigation remains open and that more details will be released as the process progresses.
