This Monday, western Colombia registered a powerful earthquake with its epicenter in the municipality of San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó, which was felt in much of the country.
The magnitude 7.4 earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), had a depth of 107 km, and occurred at 7:34 a.m. local time.
The earthquake caused significant material and human damage in cities such as Cali, Pereira and Manizales, causing the death of dozens of people.
The general director of the Colombian Geological Survey, Julio Fierro Morales, assured that it is the “strongest earthquake that has been felt in the last decade in the country.”
