A credible threat against President Donald Trump forced security measures to be stepped up during his recent international tour. According to information published by CBS News, US officials detected an alleged plan to attack the presidential plane with a missile, which led the Secret Service to modify the president's transfer.

According to the report, Trump arrived in Ankara, Türkiye, aboard the new Boeing 747-8 that Qatar donated to the United States for presidential use. However, at the conclusion of the NATO summit, he left the country on the previous generation Air Force One as a preventive measure.

The threat changed the flight plan

The cited sources indicated that the intelligence services identified a real risk that Iran or allied groups would try to launch a missile against the presidential plane.

Faced with this scenario, the Secret Service activated a security protocol and chose to use the old Air Force One, an aircraft that has known defense systems to counter aerial threats, such as technology capable of diverting or confusing missiles.

Until now, the authorities have not detailed what type of defensive systems the new Boeing 747-8 incorporates, whose adaptation process for presidential use continues.

The new plane will continue to be adjusted

The White House reported this week that the president will continue to use the aging Air Force One while the new plane receives additional upgrades.

“The new Air Force One is perfectly safe for the president's travel, but will receive additional improvements and updates in the fall,” said press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement cited by the aforementioned media.

Trump himself stated before the press that the aircraft “already has a lot of capacity,” although he explained that in the coming weeks the modernization period will be taken advantage of.

The change of plane occurs amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, a conflict that has increased protective measures around the president and revived concerns about possible threats to his security.
