Authorities in Bowie, Maryland, on the fringes of Washington, D. C. , discovered the bodies of three people who had vanished after they discovered the remains of a missing small plane in a wooded area close to a residential area.

According to ABC News, the victims were three older men who were traveling aboard a single-engine Piper Cherokee plane, according to Maryland State Police.

While government formally notify following of kin, names have not been made public.

The plane was taking a flight from Baltimore to Baltimore.

The little plane, which was headed for Montgomery County Airpark Airport in Maryland at around 11:30 pm on Saturday, reportedly took off from Ocean City, New Jersey, at around 11:30 p.

An automated fall notice sent from an iPhone was sent to Prince George's County emergency services about 15 minutes after takeoff, triggering a massive ground and air search operation.

Afterwards, rescue teams discovered the plane's aircraft in a wooded area close to the confluence of Routes 50 and 301 in Bowie.

No injury reported on the ground, according to officials.

They are looking into whether it was a teaching journey.

Investigators believe that the plane belonged to a Montgomery County aircraft school and was probably operating a training flight, based on preliminary information.

However, this aspect has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to the Israeli media outlet Channel 14, the three deceased people would be Israeli citizens, although US authorities have not publicly confirmed their identities or nationalities.

The place of impact was behind a residential area and close to a children's recreational area, according to the organizations participating in the operation.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation

The investigation was carried out by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), with support from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

So far, authorities have not determined what caused the aircraft to crash.
