Volunteers in Mexico began searching for Nancy Guthrie after receiving a tip that she was buried near the US-Mexico border, People confirmed.

The Mexican volunteer group Searching for Hearts Nogales received an anonymous tip about his alleged whereabouts.

The leader of the group, Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, told the newspaper El Imparcial that the organization received information that Nancy was buried in one of the streams in the area of ​​Mariposa, Mexico.

According to 12 News, the informant told them that his remains could be found near Nogales, a city located near the border between the United States and Mexico.

In a message to People, the organization wrote: "In May, we received the tip. The anonymous source said he is here. Yes, we will continue the search."

Busca Corazones Nogales reportedly began searching around the creek on May 16, without success. They later received a second call with additional information, prompting the group to conduct a second search on Wednesday, June 10.

The search was unsuccessful and a third is planned for June 16, according to 12 News.

Volunteers had previously scoured the region, and between April and May they recovered the remains of 32 people and found more than 25 unidentified graves, according to El Imparcial.

On Thursday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos issued a statement to X confirming that the agency is aware of the anonymous complaint. “So far, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities,” the statement said.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to investigate any credible information,” the statement concluded.
