The Texas A&M university community and family members in Laredo remain shocked after the death of Brianna Aguilera, a 19-year-old student who was found dead early Saturday morning near an apartment complex in Austin.

According to local police and According to reports from KSAT, Aguilera had attended a pre-game party for the Texas A&M vs. University of Texas football game hours earlier. Her body was discovered around 1:00 a.m. outside the building, and according to initial information given to her mother, the young woman had fallen from the 17th floor.

The mother: “There are many inconsistencies in the story”

The student's mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, said that the explanations received so far from the Austin Police Department have been confusing and contradictory.

Rodriguez recounted that, initially, detectives told her that her daughter “probably died by suicide.” Then they described the fall, while friends of the young woman claimed not to know where she was at the time of the incident.

“There are many inconsistencies in the story,” she told the news outlet. “They told me she jumped, and then they told me her friends said they didn’t know where she was.”

Rodriguez insisted that her daughter had no history of suicidal behavior and was deeply focused on her professional future.

A harrowing search and a belated discovery

The mother explained that she called the police when Aguilera stopped answering her phone after the game. She stated that she was able to see, through tracking, that the cell phone was still ringing in Austin.

Despite this, officers told her to wait 24 hours before filing a missing person report.

Police found the phone on Saturday in the area, but Rodriguez maintains that she wasn’t informed of her daughter’s death until 4:00 p.m., when they confirmed that Brianna was at the morgue.

Family suspects there was a prior fight

Rodriguez maintains that something else may have happened inside the apartment, where about 15 people were present.

“There was a fight between my daughter and another girl, and they were all staying in the same apartment, from which I have text messages, and the detective simply ignored them,” she stated.

The mother believes that at least one of the people present that night must know relevant information.

For now, none of these reports have been confirmed by authorities.

Police rule out homicide suspicion

The Austin Police Department told the media that, at this time, the death is not being investigated as a homicide, as the preliminary investigation has not revealed any suspicious elements.

The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death, a crucial step in clarifying the circumstances.

A high-achieving student with clear goals

Aguilera was originally from Laredo and had excelled as an experienced cheerleader and a magna cum laude student at United High School.

She was currently a sophomore at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M, where she was pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer.

A GoFundMe campaign created to support her family has raised more than $28,000, far exceeding its initial goal of $12,000.

“The unexpected loss of my Brie Brie has been a great challenge, but I find strength in the outpouring of love,” Rodriguez expressed in a recent message.

“I have experienced every parent’s worst fear, but I am comforted knowing that my daughter touched so many hearts.”
