A man was found dead inside an apartment in the Bronx, New York, after construction workers reported a strong odor coming from the home.

The NYPD responded on Wednesday to a 911 call made around 1:20 p.m. at a building on Longview Avenue in the Bronx.

According to preliminary information cited by the New York Post, workers carrying out renovation work on the property detected a strong odor coming from one of the apartments and reported the situation.

Upon entering the home, officers found the body of an adult man.

The authorities indicated that the deceased had a puncture wound in the chest.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, which suggests that death had occurred several days before the discovery.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and confirmed death at the scene.

Subsequently, investigators and specialized teams carried out evidence processing work inside the property while the body was removed for forensic examination.
