A 13-year-old teenager survived an electric shock after lightning struck his home in Cypress, a suburb of Houston, Texas, while he was using a computer to play video games.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 7, when the discharge caused by the meteorological phenomenon traveled through the house's electrical system and reached the minor, identified as Vladyslav Skuridin.

According to Harris County authorities, the impact also generated a small fire in the attic of the home.

“I felt a shock throughout my body,” said the teenager.

Skuridin explained that he was playing on his computer when the download occurred.

"I felt a shock that went through my entire body and I saw a very bright white light. Then I quickly jumped back and was very dizzy and confused," the young man said in a statement provided by his mother to ABC News.

The teenager added that he began to scream due to the loud noise caused by the lightning.

“There was a very loud boom that made my ears hurt and clog up,” he explained.

Emergency medical services personnel evaluated the minor at the scene, but it was not necessary to transport him to a hospital, the Harris County Precinct 4 Office reported.

The house suffered damage from the lightning strike

The teenager's mother, Yuliia Skuridina, indicated that her son is fine, although she assured that they plan to take him to a doctor to confirm that he has no internal injuries.

The woman indicated that after the discharge a mark was left on her son's chest and that the house had visible damage compatible with a lightning strike.

In addition to the fire in the attic, the discharge damaged a gas line and several electronic devices inside the house.

Crews from the Cypress Creek Fire Department responded to the scene to respond to the emergency.

Authorities remind security measures during storms

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman issued a warning after the incident and reminded that lightning can travel through a home's electrical installations.

“During thunderstorms, avoid using wired electronic devices and stay away from electrical wiring and pipes, as lightning can travel through a home's electrical system,” Herman said.

The investigation into the incident remains open.
