“Frankenstein” Guillermo del Toro's film receives 6 Oscar nominations

A new great honor has arrived for Guillermo del Toro and the team behind "Frankenstein," as it recently received six Oscar nominations in multiple technical and artistic categories, solidifying this work as one of the most acclaimed of 2025.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the film starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth is competing in categories such as: "Best Cinematography," "Makeup and Hairstyling," "Music," "Sound," "Visual Effects," and "Casting," the latter being a new category debuting at the next awards ceremony.

It's worth noting that in this new category, in addition to Del Toro, the Spanish film "Sirat" and "One Battle After Another" are also nominated. Meanwhile, in the potential "Sound and Visual Effects" category, it could compete with... with titles such as: “Wicked: For Good”, “Hamnet”, “Nouvelle Vague”, “Avatar: Fire and Ashes”, “Tron: Ares”, “F1”, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”, and “Superman”.

Despite this pre-selection, the official list of Oscar finalists, along with the rest of the nominees in the various categories, will be announced on January 22, as confirmed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Meanwhile, the final winners will be revealed during the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, hosted by Conan O'Brien.

Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” has not only received favorable projections in this distinguished pre-selection. The Mexican filmmaker is also competing for the Golden Globe for “Best Director” and the film has garnered five nominations at these awards, which will take place on January 11 in Beverly Hills.
