The former attorney general of Mexico and current ambassador of the country to the United Kingdom, Alejandro Gertz Manero, has an estate of more than thirteen properties (ten houses, an apartment, a land and an entire building), as well as a collection of jewelry worth one million dollars, according to his asset declaration.

Likewise, he also owns seven vehicles, including two Rolls Royce; works of art that reach $450,000, and bank accounts in Spain, Switzerland and the United States.

All this information was revealed by the official himself when uploading the declaration of his assets on the open consultation platform Declaranet, as a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

In his position as attorney general, Gerz Manero refused to make this data public, but was now obliged by the current regulations of the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

Among the declared assets, several houses that he inherited throughout his life stand out (from 200 to more than 1,000 square meters), an entire building also inherited or a property in the United States worth more than a million dollars.

Furthermore, more than a decade ago he bought a 233-square-meter property in the Madrid neighborhood of Los Jerónimos, one of the most expensive and exclusive in the capital of Spain.

According to Mexican media, this public statement includes assets that the former attorney general has exclusively, and not those that he can share with other people.

Gertz Manero was appointed to head the Attorney General's Office (FGR) in 2019, during the mandate of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).

However, in November 2025, already in the six-year term of the current head of state, Claudia Sheinbaum, he resigned from the position to be appointed ambassador of Mexico to the United Kingdom.

The official had a controversial management in the FGR, between accusations of the lack of results in the prosecution of justice, his long absences from the public scene and his opacity and few press conferences.

Gertz Manero's controversial decisions include a proposal to eliminate the crime of femicide, use the Prosecutor's Office to persecute his brother's widow, and clash with the person in charge of investigating the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayoztinapa.
