John Kennedy, senator from Louisiana, would be willing to compete in an internal process against James David Vance, vice president of the nation; and before Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, for the Republican presidential candidacy in 2028.

Nearly completing a decade in the Senate, the lawyer originally from Centreville, Mississippi, is convinced that he could have the necessary support to represent conservatives on the ticket as an option to replace President Donald Trump.

During an appearance on the “Katie Pavlich Tonight” program, which is broadcast by the NewsNation news network, the 74-year-old Republican mentioned that even though his term as senator will end in January 2029, that would not prevent him from campaigning with the aim of contesting the ticket to the White House.

"I plan to run for the Senate, but if you ask me what would happen if a lot of candidates run and I think they are inept and I can do better, would I consider running? And I say, 'Of course,'" he said.

Without having the same media exposure as Vance or Rubio, one of John Kennedy's strengths lies in his community of followers built on social networks.

Currently, the 74-year-old politician is followed by 1.7 million people on platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

This number of followers interested in discovering what Kennedy often shares is promising for his aspirations, since the comments directed towards his content are usually more supportive than severe criticism of his performance as a legislator.

Regarding Marco Rubio, his power in X translates into two million followers, which are insufficient to reach J.D. Vance and his 5.4 million followers on the same platform.

With a long way to go, both the Secretary of State and the Vice President are seen fighting a close race to see who can represent the conservatives in the 2028 presidential elections.

Towards the end of last month, the results of a poll conducted by the nonpartisan public opinion and survey research center Emerson College Polling placed Vance with 36% support, just one point more than Rubio.

Far behind them were Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida; and Nikki Haley, former candidate for the conservative presidential candidacy in 2024, both with 5% citizen support.

We would have to wait to measure whether a hypothetical nomination by John Kennedy would cause changes in the preferences of Republican voters.
