The contribution seeks to strengthen the humanitarian response through the installation of temporary shelters, medical care, mental health support and the provision of drinking water and basic necessities for affected people.

MLB and MLBPA reinforce humanitarian support in Venezuela

In a joint statement, the MLB and the MLBPA explained that the donation aims to directly support the operations of the Red Cross in the areas most affected by the earthquakes of June 24.

The organizations stressed that this initiative responds to the close historical relationship between Major League baseball and Venezuela, one of the countries with the greatest presence of talent in the American league.

Robert Manfred highlights the link between MLB and Venezuela

MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. highlighted the importance of Venezuela within professional baseball and the human impact of the tragedy.

“Venezuela is the birthplace of many Major League players, and the country and its fans have contributed enormously to baseball,” he said.

"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all those suffering the consequences of this disaster. Through this joint donation to the Red Cross, we hope to provide essential resources to the brave first responders and offer significant support to the Venezuelan people in their difficult recovery process," he added.

MLBPA expresses solidarity with Venezuelan players

The interim executive director of the MLBPA, Bruce Meyer, also expressed the union's support for Venezuelan baseball players and the communities affected by the emergency.

“The MLBPA stands in solidarity with our Venezuelan players, their families and the countless people affected by the devastating earthquakes in Caracas, La Guaira and neighboring regions,” he said.

Meyer added that the organization remains committed to supporting the country's recovery and reconstruction after the natural disaster.

Venezuela, a key country for the Major Leagues

The MLB highlighted the relevance of Venezuela within professional baseball, remembering its constant contribution of talent to the Major Leagues.

Among the most recent data, the league highlighted that the Venezuelan team became champions of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, in addition to noting that 60 players born in Venezuela were part of the Opening Day rosters of the season.

This sporting and cultural link reinforces the connection between American baseball and the South American country in the midst of the current humanitarian crisis.

Rescue efforts continue after the earthquakes

The donation is announced as search and rescue operations continue in the areas most affected by the June 24 earthquakes.

According to the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, the official toll amounts to 1,943 deaths, 10,571 injured and 6,461 people rescued, in addition to 855 damaged buildings, of which 189 completely collapsed.
