Vote Early Day, the nonpartisan civic initiative dedicated to promoting electoral participation, set Tuesday, October 27 as its national day in 2026, leading up to the midterm elections.

The date seeks to encourage community groups, companies, libraries, educational institutions, media, and electoral officials to promote activities so that voters know their options and prepare their participation in advance.

Funds for local organizations

One of the central announcements is the opening of a grant program for community organizations that want to organize electoral education and citizen participation activities around the national day.

Selected groups will be able to receive financial support, communication materials, planning tools and technical advice. The call is aimed at non-profit organizations, libraries, educational institutions and other local actors.

Vote Early Day maintains that community work is key to bringing electoral information to those who may face difficulties in knowing their voting alternatives.

Early voting gains ground

The organization highlights that more than 85 million Americans voted early in 2024. By 2026, the goal is to maintain that trend and expand knowledge about available voting options.

“Voting is one of the simplest and most powerful ways people can shape the future of their communities,” said Yadira Sánchez, executive director of Poder Latinx, an organization that this year became the new home of National Vote Early Day.

Sánchez has also defended the usefulness of early voting for those who face difficult workdays, family responsibilities or other obstacles to going to the polls.

The October event will be focused on informing and facilitating participation, without endorsing candidates or parties. According to Vote Early Day, the purpose is for each eligible voter to know their alternatives, make a plan and be able to exercise their right before election day.
