Ryan Routh, a 59-year-old man who attempted to shoot Donald Trump with a rifle in Florida in September 2014, was found guilty on all five counts against him during a trial where he was in command of his protection, but the judge's decision could mean a life sentence. The North Carolina native was detained on September 15, 2024, after being discovered lying with a firearm in trees close to Trump International, which was then a Republican candidate, while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach. When a Secret Service agent spotted him, his plan to assassinate the New York magnate was revealed. Ryan Routh tried to prove his reported ignorance last year by presenting himself to a jury in Fort Pierce, Florida. His approach, however, was unsuccessful, and he was found guilty of five counts, including attempted murder of a popular presidential candidate, assaulting a federal agent, and criminal possession of firearms with obliterated serial numbers.

Federal prosecutors stated in court documents prior to the release of Routh's statement that his behavior necessitated a statement of no less than life in prison because he showed no remorse or remorse before February 4 when his sentence will be announced.

" Death is not one of the many peaceful ways that the Constitution gives citizens to oppose or express strong opposition about a presidential prospect," the statement continues.

The defendant acknowledges that he was found guilty by the judge, but it contends that his inability to properly fight witnesses, use evidence, or explicitly present dismissal evidence designed to demonstrate his lack of intent to harm anyone is contained in a 21-page sentencing memorandum prepared by the government.
