The fighter of Mexican descent assured that he is willing to face the Tijuana native to show who has the necessary level to lead the discipline.

The direct message about the future of boxing

The current monarch of 175 and 200 pounds downplayed Álvarez's preferences. In an exclusive interview given to the Izquierdazo portal, David Benavídez explained that his focus remains on providing the fights that the audience demands.

"The truth is, no one has to tell me anything. If people don't tell me that I am the face of boxing, I don't care, I'm going to continue giving the fights, what they want to see," David Benavídez told the aforementioned information source.

The fighter was clear when proposing a combat scenario against the current WBA super middleweight champion. “If they want Jaime Munguía to be the face of boxing, let him fight at semi heavyweight and knock him out, and let's see what face of boxing he is going to be,” said the fighter.

Weight divisions as a factor of competition

Munguía has achieved world championships in the super welterweight and super middleweight categories. A promotion to the light heavyweight division appears as a transitional step in his medium-term professional career.

For his part, David Benavídez currently holds the WBC and WBA belts at the 175-pound limit. The athlete confirmed that he registers this tonnage without problems, which would facilitate the exhibition of his titles in the ring.

Although a direct clash is not on the immediate agenda of the promoters, the message establishes a line of competition. David Benavídez reiterated that his central motivation is to surpass the exponents of the world circuit.

Short and medium term unification plans

“I'm just trying to be the best David Benavídez possible and I want to beat the best,” the boxer concluded during his intervention with the medium LEFT.

The fighter's sports agenda includes the unification of the cruiserweight titles against Noel Mikaelian at the end of this calendar year.

Subsequently, the work plan points towards the light heavyweight category. The team seeks to finalize a duel against the Russian Dmitry Bivol for the weekend of May 5, 2027.
