Weeks after releasing his twelfth studio album, rapper Chris Brown has won an award that few expected. The artist received an honorary doctorate in Visual and Performing Arts from Harvest Christian University, a private religious institution in Dallas, Texas.

Through his official Instagram account, the “It Depends” and “Loyal” singer announced the news with a smile and a strong message of pride: “I DID A THING!,” he wrote.

To do so, Brown posted a couple of photographs that immortalized the most special moments of the ceremony, including the placement of his cap and gown, as well as the delivery of the diploma that accredits this honor.

This is not the first time Harvest Christian University has awarded an honorary doctorate to music stars. In accordance with its history, the educational institution seeks to reward social impact over traditional academic merits.

This is how his list of fees includes names such as: rapper Busta Rhymes, comedians Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac, as well as former NFL player Michael Irvin.

The delivery of this recognition comes in the face of a bittersweet season on a professional and media level for the singer. And while the famous man is preparing the final details of his tour with Usher, scheduled to begin on June 26 in Denver, he is also facing a wave of criticism for his new studio album titled “Brown.”

Within this album material, collaborations with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, GloRilla, Vybz Kartel, Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, Tank, Fridayy, Sexyy Red and Lucky Daye are included.

Responding to the divided opinions, Chris Brown told his followers: "Team Breezy, I know people want me to stand up here and say something stupid, but f**k you. We're going to kick your asses, dammit! We're not stopping."

Under this same situation, he promised those who have remained faithful to his musical proposal new surprises and greater commitment to his shows: "I'm going to keep my foot on their necks and we're not going to stop. Do you hear me? We're going to do this. Tour, and more to come. I'm not going to tell you what else is coming, but it will come, at the end of the day," he added in a second post on social networks.
