The assimilation of Munguía's fighting style and the analysis of the commercial viability of the confrontation constitute the immediate priorities for the Texas corner.
The technical analysis of Jaime Munguía's victory
The American fighter explained that he has constantly monitored the performance of the Tijuana athlete during his recent victory in May against “Toro” Reséndiz.
In an interview given to the specialized magazine The Ring, Jermall Charlo recognized the tactical variants applied by the new champion of the boxing organization and justified the reasons why he considers that the clash would represent a suitable duel for his career.
“I liked that it came out different,” explained the American boxer when evaluating the performance of the Tijuana native on the canvas. In his intervention with the aforementioned media, the athlete from the Charlo dynasty elaborated on the maturity of the Mexican boxer: "Munguía boxed. He showed us a different side. He proved to be a true champion. He stayed at close range and received a couple of blows. I like the boxer. I think it's a good fight for me."
This formal challenge occurs prior to the completion of Jermall Charlo's return to the rings, scheduled for July 26 in Sydney, Australia. The American boxer will face local fighter Koen Mazoudier in a ten-round fight at super middleweight, which will serve as a backup to the stellar confrontation between Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu in oceanic territory.
Failed negotiations and physical preparation
The Texan fighter's last official presentation in paid boxing was recorded in May 2025, when he defeated Thomas LaManna by fast track in the sixth round after knocking him down three times.
Although the victory projected a subsequent fight against Caleb Plant for the end of that cycle, the latter's defeat against Reséndiz altered the plans of the American camp.
Following the sporting retirement of Terence Crawford following his confrontation with Canelo Álvarez, Reséndiz assumed the status of absolute monarch of the organization.
“I was close to fighting,” declared the boxer when referring to the previous talks to compete for the organization's belt. "The negotiations did not favor me. I am not here just to fight for money. I am going to fight for my legacy, and I want it to be worth it. They cannot pressure me to enter a training camp. I like to have a complete camp like the one I have now," detailed the former world champion in his speech for the specialized publication.
