Sheinbaum emphasizes that Mexico is safe after a travel alert from the United Kingdom for the World Cup
Sheinbaum responded to the travel alert from the British Government, which advised against making non-essential trips to areas of several states in Mexico.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured this Thursday that traveling to the country is "safe" after the recent travel alert issued by the United Kingdom in which it recommended its citizens not to travel to several Mexican states and warned about the increase in mobile thefts due to the celebration of the World Cup, days before the round of 16 match that will face Mexico and England in the Mexican capital.
“It is safe to visit the country, there is no problem,” declared the president in her daily press conference from Mexico City.
The British Government's alert advises against making non-essential trips to areas of the states of Chihuahua (north), Sinaloa (northwest), Tamaulipas (northeast), Zacatecas (center), Guanajuato (center), Michoacán (west), Jalisco (west), Colima (west), Guerrero (south), Chiapas (south) and Baja California (northwest).
Likewise, it alerted its citizens that four people died in crowds during the World Cup celebrations, while warning of the increase in cell phone thefts and cases of drink adulteration within the framework of the sports tournament.
Without commenting specifically on this alert, the Mexican president stated that the authorities are “taking some measures to put up more screens” on Paseo de la Reforma, the main street in the country's capital, and that “there is no congregation of people in certain places, but rather they can disperse.”
This decision, he added, was made after the “unfortunate death” of three people due to asphyxiation during the World Cup celebrations, and another person died in a hospital after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest in the celebration of the team's victory.
"I have called on all the fans, on all those who watch the game, both here in the Zócalo and in the different places, to act responsibly. Trust people, avoid excess alcohol and act responsibly," Sheinbaum said.
Despite what happened, the president insisted that there is “no problem” for people traveling to Mexico a few days before the national team faces England in the round of 16 match that will take place in the country's capital.
"There are police officers to guide mainly and several authorities from the Government of Mexico City and from us to be able to guide the fans to those who are going to watch the game. And to call on everyone to act responsibly," he concluded. EFE
