Supreme Court rules against immigrants seeking asylum and supports Trump order
The Supreme Court backs Trump and limits access to asylum for migrants at the border
The United States Supreme Court gave a key victory to the Donald Trump administration by ruling that immigrants who remain on the Mexican side of the border do not have the right to request asylum or be processed by US immigration authorities until they physically cross into US territory.
In a 6-3 decision, the justices concluded that a person has not “arrived in the United States,” according to federal immigration law, as long as he or she remains in Mexico, even if he or she is at a port of entry or attempts to file a request for protection. The resolution corresponds to the case Mullin v. To the Other Side and could have important effects on immigration policy.
