Trump confesses that he called the FIFA president for Balogun's red card: I don't think it was a foul
The president acknowledges that he called Gianni Infantino to review the red card against the US national team player, Folarin Balogun
President Donald Trump acknowledged that he called the president of FIFA, Gianni Infatino, to “review” the red card to the American team player, Folarin Balogun, who was suspended from playing against Belgium.
Trump affirmed that he did not see a foul in the play that led to Belogun's punishment, in addition to criticizing referee Raphael Claus, who issued the red card in the US match against Bosnia and Herzegovina
"I saw the play... it wasn't a foul... this referee, who is a little suspicious if you look at his record... It's one thing to sanction someone for the game, but how do you sanction him for a game that hasn't been played yet? So yes, I asked FIFA for a review," Trump said.
FIFA rules, in fact, establish that a player with a red card in a match is punished with a suspension for his next match, but on this occasion, FIFA will delay the sanction, after Trump's call to Infantino.
Trump attempted to justify his interference with the federation's rules, saying he only asked for it to be "reviewed."
"I asked for a review because it didn't seem like a foul to me... I thought the referee's decision was horrible... I didn't know what a red card was," the president said from the White House.
