True to his custom in recent months with like-minded politicians, Donald Trump announced his support for Congressman Mike Collins in the second round of the Republican primaries for the Senate in Georgia, an intervention that could influence one of the most watched races of the 2026 electoral cycle and that once again highlights his weight within the MAGA movement.

Through a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “It is my great honor to support MAGA Mike Collins, a highly respected congressman who has been by my side from the beginning,” while describing him as a “true friend, fighter and warrior” to represent Georgia in the Senate.

The president also maintained that Collins has “the strong support of Georgia's most respected MAGA patriots” and assured that, if he reaches the Senate, he will continue to promote policies to “grow the economy, reduce taxes and regulations, strengthen American energy dominance and keep the border secure,” among other priorities on his political agenda.

The race pits Collins against former football coach Derek Dooley, backed by Georgia's Republican governor, Brian Kemp, in a rivalry that has gained national relevance due to historical differences between Trump and the state president.

The winner of the Republican second round will seek to defeat Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff in November, considered one of the main electoral objectives of the Republican Party in the midterm elections.

Analysts consider that the presidential endorsement turns the election into a new test of Trump's ability to influence the Republican primaries and consolidate candidates aligned with his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement. Collins has presented himself throughout the campaign as one of the president's closest allies and has based much of his message on loyalty to his political agenda.

The support comes just a few days before the second round, after none of the candidates obtained the necessary majority in the first round of voting held in May.
