Officials in Lancaster said a gentleman who is accused of murdering his wife, dumping her body in a forest, and then fleeing to Peru has been extradited to the United States.
Sheylla Gutierrez's death was the scene of Jossimar Cabrera's arrest on Friday at 7:30 p. m. at Los Angeles International Airport. According to a declaration from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, he was taken to the police station and charged with murder. Cabrera was detained in Peru in late August and was awaiting extradition to the United States to face a murder charge that the trial had filed. In apprehending Cabrera, US Marshals assisted homicide investigators and the Coroner's Bureau of Serious Crimes fugitive task force. On August 16th, a body was discovered at the bottom of an slope in the Angeles National Forest. The 33-year-old target had been reported missing on August 12. Investigators looking into the murder scene discovered surveillance footage of Cabrera dragging a large item from his Lancaster apartment complex, which was covered in a big piece of cloth. According to the Sheriff's Department, the defendant's body was discovered wrapped in a similar materials. The suspect, who had fled to Peru with the couple's three kids, chose to voluntarily retreat on August 27 at Interpol's Lima office, assisted by his attorney. The Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement on August 16 via social media that it had transported the children from Mexico City to Los Angeles so they could move in with their family's home.
