In a heroic reaction, Gregory Simmonds, an agent with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), saved the life of a six-year-old boy who was drowning in a swimming pool.

According to the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the incident occurred on May 16 in Pasco, Florida.

Through the recording of a security camera near a semi-Olympic swimming pool, it is observed how the ICE officer, at that moment dressed in civilian clothes and off duty, notices that a child remains inert, with his face towards the water and floating.

Without hesitation, the subject in question dives into the water to, as quickly as possible, reach where the little one is with the aim of rescuing him and taking him to the shore.

Once the first objective has been met, he takes him out of the pool and applies cardiopulmonary resuscitation until he regains consciousness.

In a statement, Lauren Bis, acting deputy secretary of DHS, praised Gregory Simmonds' action.

“This officer acted quickly and provided life-saving medical care to this choking six-year-old boy.

Our agents are truly the best. They risk their lives to arrest the worst criminals. Instead of demonizing ICE law enforcement, politicians who defend sanctuary cities should thank them for removing criminals from their communities,” the letter states.

J. Leathers, corporal of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Florida, joined the expressions of admiration expressed towards the ICE agent.

“Thanks to your quick reaction, decisive actions and willingness to take action during a critical incident, the boy survived and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Your actions directly contributed to saving the child's life and reflect exceptional courage and generosity," he wrote.

The rescue action carried out by Gregory Simmonds arises at a complex moment for the agents in charge of detaining immigrants lacking legal status, since those who oppose them argue that the implementation of a policy promoted by Washington with the objective of eradicating the migratory phenomenon in a nation founded centuries ago by immigrants is being taken to the extreme.
