In November 2026, millions of people will have to reset their clocks with the arrival of winter and the change of time in the United States.

This setting marks the end of Daylight Saving Time and brings with it an additional hour of rest during the early morning hours. However, it also means that it will get dark earlier, a change that is usually felt during the first weeks of November.

When is the time change in the United States?

The next time change is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026. That day, at 2:00 in the morning, the clocks must be turned back one hour to read 1:00 am again.

In other words, those who remain awake during that moment will experience the same hour twice. The adjustment represents a return to standard time, which will remain in effect until March 2027, when daylight saving time will take effect again.

Currently, this system continues to be regulated by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and is administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT), the agency in charge of supervising its application in the country.

Which states won't turn their clocks back?

There are exceptions provided by federal legislation for the time change in the United States. The places that remain throughout the year in standard hours are:

In these states and territories it will not be necessary to modify clocks or devices, as they maintain the same schedule throughout the twelve months of the year.

In Washington the debate continues on the possibility of eliminating the semiannual adjustments. One of the best-known proposals is the Sunshine Protection Act, an initiative that seeks to permanently establish daylight saving time to avoid setting the clocks forward and back twice a year.

The project has received support from different political sectors and even from President Donald Trump. However, it still must complete the legislative process in Congress before becoming law.
