Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the House of Representatives, announced that starting in January she will dedicate her time and political experience to create an institute dedicated to training leaders.

In early November of last year, the former speaker of the House of Representatives announced that after 37 years she would not seek re-election in Congress.

"There has been no greater honor for me than to stand on the House floor and say, 'I speak for the people of San Francisco.' I have truly loved serving as their voice in Congress, and I have always honored San Francisco's song, 'Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,' our city's anthem. That's why I want you, my fellow San Franciscans, to be the first to know. I will not seek re-election to Congress," he said in a video posted on platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Faced with the question about what the future would hold for her starting in January after concluding her political career, during an interview with the CNN television network, the 86-year-old Democrat spoke of a project that a year ago was offered to her by a group of administrators and about eight Berkeley professors to found an institute with the aim of taking advantage of her knowledge acquired over decades immersed in Congress.

“I believe that all of us who work in public service and have the opportunity to do so want to use our experience to train the leaders of the future.

For me, this represented a liberation from politics, not from politics itself, but from partisanship. Because you go to an academic institution. “It is about what our founders had in mind with our Constitution, and it is a beautiful story to tell,” he said.

It should be noted that Pelosi's first challenge will be to raise $25 million for the creation of a fund that will serve as the basis for developing the project scheduled to be ready in the spring of 2027.

“I loved it because they talked about human rights in the United States and in the world, they addressed the challenges to our democracy, they talked about the challenges of climate and income inequality,” the Democrat stressed.
