Chivas Guadalajara had a busy Tuesday with the contract renewal of striker Armando “Hormiga” Gonzalez, the current top scorer along with Portuguese Paulinho of Toluca and Brazilian Joao Pedro of Atletico San Luis, with 12 goals.

Hormiga will partner with former Cruz Azul striker Angel Sepulveda, who is expected this Wednesday at the Verde Valle facilities to undergo medical exams and join the group for preseason training.

The contract extension of midfielder Fernando “Oso” Gonzalez was also confirmed. Gonzalez, along with Omar Govea, was instrumental in coach Gabriel Milito's decision to let go of World Cup player Erick Gutierrez, who arrived with high expectations but ended up losing his place in the Chivas squad.

At the same time, the board confirmed the departures of Alan Mozo, Erick Gutierrez, and Alan Pulido, who ultimately did not make the final roster. The Argentine coach Gabriel Milito's plans were not included, and for that reason, they were not included on the list of players traveling to Zacatecas, where the Chivas team will conduct their preseason training with physical conditioning and some matches before participating in the Pacific Cup starting January 3rd at Jalisco Stadium. Armando Gonzalez had an extraordinary Apertura 2025 tournament, in which he was crowned top scorer with 12 goals and established himself as one of the most promising strikers in Mexican soccer. The renewal of the 22-year-old striker's contract until 2029 confirms the club's commitment to his talent and development. The above highlighted the interest in renewing the contract of the striker who came up through the Guadalajara youth system, for which they offered a three-year contract with a high buyout clause and the promise to let him listen to offers from European teams. "La Hormiga" (The Ant) is the son of the former Chivas, Necaxa, and Queretaro striker of the same name, who was important in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before beginning a career as an executive at Necaxa.

Scoring Duo with Angel Sepulveda

Signing the contract of "La Hormiga" (The Ant) was a priority for the Chivas board, especially since their plans include forming a scoring duo with the explosive Cruz Azul striker Angel Sepulveda, who recently enjoyed a successful stint with La Maquina Celeste.

Sepulveda's addition was key to Milito's plans, and along with Brian Gutierrez, a Mexican-American midfielder from the Chicago Fire, they hope to create a powerful attack alongside Yael Padilla and Ricardo Marin, who returned from Puebla.
