According to FIFA, the incorrectly priced tickets were purchased on May 21 through the tournament's official website. The date is striking because it occurred more than three months after the president of the organization, Gianni Infantino, stated that the 104 World Cup matches were completely sold out.

Despite those statements, FIFA continues to sell tickets for matches in the tournament, which will begin next Thursday in Mexico City.
