The American boxer Terence Crawford clarified the conditions under which he would have agreed to hold a second fight against the Mexican Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.

After his victory by unanimous decision in September of last year, the North American boxer explained that the clauses of the original representation document prevented in advance any attempt to coordinate a new commercial confrontation in the super middleweight division.

During a conversation held on the North American radio program The Breakfast Club, the Nebraska athlete addressed the constant speculation about a revenge duel and the reason why he decided to distance himself from that possibility after his subsequent retirement from professional rings.

In that sense, Terence Crawford was forceful regarding strict compliance with the agreements established for the first contest.

"The rematch against Canelo was ruled out. There was no rematch clause. If it had been included in the contract, I would have respected it," the boxer directly declared, administratively ruling out that there were subsequent formal talks to reactivate the rivalry between both athletes.

The road to unbeatability in three divisions

The victory obtained by Terence Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas allowed him to consolidate a sporting milestone by being crowned unified champion in a third different weight category.

The achievement became relevant because the American had to move up two tonnage divisions to challenge the Mexican monarch, who had remained unbeatable against boxers in lower categories since his fall to Dmitry Bivol in the 2022 season.

Although the adverse result of the first confrontation motivated rumors about an immediate second card for the summer or fall season, the absence of a mandatory clause made it easier for the 38-year-old fighter to make the decision to hang up his gloves permanently, leaving the world crowns that were disputed in the month of September vacant.

Truncated plans in the middleweight division

Before confirming his formal retirement from high-performance physical activity, Terence Crawford contemplated the viability of venturing into 160 pounds to try to take over the undisputed belts.

His sports planning initially focused on the Kazakh Janibek Alimkhanuly, who at that time held the crowns of the International Boxing Federation and the World Boxing Organization.
