Grok 4.5 is now available and comes with quite interesting promises. Elon Musk's new bet is not satisfied with being “just another chatbot”, but rather aims directly at becoming an assistant capable of programming, designing and even putting together complete office documents, all from one place.

Grok 4.5 creates apps with just one prompt

The most striking thing about this release is that Grok 4.5 can generate complete and functional applications from a single instruction, without the user having to provide too many technical specifications. The company ensures that the model masters languages such as Rust and C/C , something that allows it to get into programming projects that are much more complex than those handled by its previous version.

This jump is no coincidence. Grok 4.5 was trained with Cursor, the code editor that is part of the SpaceX ecosystem, and this is noticeable in the way it solves real engineering tasks. Musk describes it as a base model of 1.5 trillion parameters that was then further trained with specific programming data.

The other surprise comes for those who live between spreadsheets and presentations. Grok 4.5 can create Excel workbooks with formulas spread across several tabs, search for information on the Internet while you work, and explain how the data you generate are connected. That same approach is transferred to PowerPoint, where the model prepares slides with its own diagrams, and to Word, where it writes complete documents without repeating the work in different tools.

This is how he stands up to Claude in programming

Elon Musk did not hold back the comparisons and described Grok 4.5 as an Opus-class model, albeit faster and cheaper to operate. According to independent testing by Artificial Analysis, the model ranked just below Claude Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5, but above Claude Sonnet 5 and GLM-5.2. These are the points where the difference is made compared to its most talked about rival.

Grok 4.5 availability and pricing

The good news is that Grok 4.5 is now available to use, and there is no need to wait months to try it out. The model can be accessed through SpaceXAI, as the default model in Grok Build, and also within Cursor for those programming with that tool.

For those who work directly with the API, the cost is $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, a rate that the company itself presents as more competitive than other high-end models. Be careful with an important detail for the European audience, because the launch in the European Union has not yet arrived and is expected in mid-July 2026.

The context handled by Grok 4.5 also adds points, as it supports a window of up to 500,000 tokens and accepts text and image input, although at the moment it only returns text as output. With this move, xAI makes it clear that its plan involves getting fully into the field of serious programming, a space where until now Claude has been setting the pace without too many surprises.
