A recording of emergency services obtained by CBS News revealed that on June 14, a call was received from the residence of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, in which an unconscious person was reported and possible cardiac arrest was mentioned, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers.

Although the patient is not identified by name in the audio, the call occurred the same morning that the Kentucky legislator was hospitalized. So far, the aforementioned media indicates that it has not been able to confirm that the person treated was McConnell himself.

McConnell's office remains secretive about his health

Hours after the incident, a spokesperson for the senator reported that McConnell, 84, had been hospitalized and was receiving “excellent care,” without offering details about the reasons for his admission or the hospital where he was treated.

The next day, the Republican's office assured that the former leader of the Republican Senate caucus "is fully involved with staff in Senate affairs and issues related to Kentucky."

For his part, Senate Majority Leader John Thune claimed to have spoken with McConnell.

"He sounded good. He's clearly aware of what's going on," Thune said on June 15.

A recent history of health problems

In recent years, Mitch McConnell has faced various medical problems. In February he was hospitalized for flu-like symptoms, while in 2023 he suffered a concussion after a fall and starred in two public episodes in which he remained motionless for several seconds while giving statements.

In 2024, the senator suffered minor injuries again after another fall. Additionally, in May of this year he appeared with a bandage on one of his hands during a legislative hearing.

So far, McConnell's office has not responded to new requests for comment made by CBS News, which released the recording of the emergency call.
