Report links Trump donor jet to ICE deportations
A luxurious Gulfstream transported immigrants from Arizona to Tel Aviv on at least two occasions between late January and early February
According to an investigation released by The Guardian, a private jet connected to real estate developer Gil Dezer, a donor and close friend of Donald Trump, was allegedly used in deportation flights coordinated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE).
According to the review, the beautiful Gulfstream, which Dezer refers to as "my little rocket," transported people from Arizona to Tel Aviv on at least twice between late January and early February. Because they involved Arab migrants who were in ICE custody, these motions were part of repatriation operations that were viewed as politically vulnerable. The connection was made public after a photo of a deportee getting off a plane bearing the Dezer Development logo, a real estate company Michael Dezer founded and now run by his son Gil, was published in the Jewish newspaper Haaretz. The research concluded that the flights were not immediately chartered by the merchant. The plane was chartered by ICE through Journey Aviation, a Florida-based business that generally provides charter flights to US government agencies.
Dezer was aware of the flight's goal.
The same airplane has been involved in at least four imprisonment flights to Kenya, Liberia, Guinea, and Eswatini since October 2015, according to Human Rights First, a body that monitors imprisonment activities.
Dezer claimed when The Guardian reached him that he only received information regarding the timing and logistics of the use of his airplane. He claimed that Dezer was conscious of the purpose of the flights.
The Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) for its portion claimed that ICE does not research who owns the aircraft used by its vendors and does not directly deal with private plane users. The company claims that official companies handle the transfers.
A spokesperson from the State Department defended the country's recent immigration policy and argued that the Trump administration still prioritizes the imprisonment of illegal immigrants, particularly those with legal documents.
