A Russian drone strike cut off power in Odesa, in southern Ukraine, the firm DTEK reported on Monday, leaving 35,000 homes in the dark in a neighborhood of the regional capital and in other towns in the area of ??the same name. The company warned that the damage is severe and that "restoring service will take time." The attack hit infrastructure and a residential building in Odesa, Mayor Serhiy Lysak reported. Two people were injured, he added. The regional governor, Oleg Kiper, said that five houses and a local administration building were also hit by the shelling. The Odesa region is under attack almost daily by Russia, which has focused its long-range attacks on this area in recent weeks. Due to the intense airstrikes, Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and others are without electricity. Without power, heating and water also fail, just as temperatures in some parts of Ukraine are nearing -20 degrees Celsius. On this last point, the governor of Odesa clarified that both heating and water were already operational in Odesa.

“Stay in the shelters!”

The Ukrainian Air Force, for its part, reported that the aggressor country launched 156 drones against Ukrainian territory, of which 135 were intercepted. However, impacts occurred at 18 locations across the country. One of the regions of Ukraine targeted in the attack is Chernihiv, in the north of the country, where there was “significant” damage to energy infrastructure.

Kyiv, a city where thousands of homes remain without heating, was also attacked by drones. “Air defenses have been activated in Kyiv. Stay in the shelters!” wrote Timur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of the Kyiv region, on his Telegram account shortly before 2:00 a.m. local time. The attack caused a fire in a non-residential building. In his address to the nation on Sunday night,President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that the power supply continues to experience serious shortages in regions bordering Russia or along the front lines, and in some areas of Kyiv, where specialists are still working to mitigate the consequences of Friday's major Russian attack. "Much has been done, but a substantial number of families are still without electricity," Zelensky said regarding the situation in the region where the capital is located.
