Soon after a judge gave her parents the right to keep her in the main prison, a 4-year-old woman was shot dying in a Houston, Texas home. According to authorities, the girl's family shot her and then shot herself.
The victim's attorney identified her as Vivian Savella in a statement released this year.
The information begins," Vivian was four years old," and goes," Our family is devastated. " She was unwaveringly loved by her parents, Aaron, and by everyone who had a direct impact on her life.
The incident took place on Tuesday nights at a house in Houston's northern region, Terra Reserve Place.
Houston police received a call shortly after 5:45 p.m. for a shooting. When police arrived, they found Vivian dead on the spot.
The mother, a 30-year-old woman whose identity has not been disclosed, was also wounded after shooting herself. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and, according to authorities, is expected to survive.
The shooting occurred the same day that a family court judge made a decision on Vivian’s custody.
Sources close to the family told KTRK that the judge had granted the father the main custody of the girl and that the mother should deliver her that same night.
The family’s lawyer subsequently confirmed this circumstance in a statement broadcast by KPRC.
According to the message, the father, identified only as Aaron, had followed court orders during the custody process.
“Aaron did everything the law requires of a father who tries to protect his son,” the statement said, “he trusted the courts. he fulfilled every order. he waited for the process to work.”
The document adds that on Tuesday a judge placed Vivian under his primary care and that the girl was to return with him that night.
“She never arrived,” the statement said.
Police said there were other people inside the house when the shooting occurred.
According to KHOU, a Houston Police Department spokesman explained that the father-in-law and a nurse were on the bottom floor when they heard gunfire coming from the top of the house.
Both went up and found the victims.
The father-in-law attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres for Vivian, but was unable to save her.
The researchers subsequently talked to the father-in-law and nurse as part of the surveys.
Police have not publicly what happened immediately before the shootings, nor have they disclosed additional details about how the incident developed.
Authorities continue to investigate Vivian’s death and the shooting her mother suffered.
The woman remains hospitalized and is expected to survive the injuries she caused, according to police.
So far, authorities have not publicly informed about possible charges related to the case.
As the investigation continues, the family asked for respect and privacy during the mourning.
“We call on the public to remember that there are parents everywhere who fight quietly and patiently, and within the law, to protect their children,” the statement said.
“Their stories are rarely told, and they should be told,” the message added.
The family also thanked for the samples of support received and asked for privacy as they face Vivian’s death.
