Another Friday without a winner in Mega Millions pushed the jackpot to $800 million, making it the 10th largest in U.S. lottery history. Interest is growing more and more among regular players and those who are not so regular.

The increase occurred after no ticket matched the winning combination consisting of the numbers 2, 5, 42, 44 and 60, in addition to the golden Mega Ball number 1. That draw offered an estimated prize of $743 million dollars, but the absence of a winner allowed the amount to continue increasing.

The current streak without a jackpot now totals 37 consecutive drawings, a drought that began after March 17, when The Happy Trails Trust won $60 million in Van Wert, Ohio. Since then, no player has managed to match all the numbers necessary to claim the main prize.

Although the jackpot was left vacant, several participants won important prizes. A total of 13 tickets matched four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball, a result that allowed them to win between $20,000 and $40,000 dollars, depending on the multiplier selected when purchasing their ticket.

California topped the list with five winners at this level. Florida and Ohio each recorded two winning tickets, while Georgia, South Carolina, Idaho and Missouri added one winner respectively.

The $800 million prize pool is the largest Mega Millions has offered since Nov. 14, 2025, when a Georgia player won $983 million, the eighth-largest prize in the game's history. The winner chose to remain anonymous and chose to receive a one-time cash payment of $453.6 million, before taxes.

During 2026, Mega Millions has only awarded two jackpots. In addition to The Happy Trails Trust, a player who bought his ticket online in Illinois won $536 million on March 10.

The low number of winners keeps the game on track to record one of the years with the fewest jackpots awarded. As of July 24, only two main prizes had been distributed, the same number that existed on that date in 2024. According to the organizers, that year ended with only four grand prize winners.

Despite the attractiveness of the prize, the chances of winning remain extremely small. The chance of matching all six numbers and winning the jackpot is 1 in 290,472,336.

The next opportunity to try to win the $800 million dollars will be in Tuesday's drawing, when the jackpot will be put back into play.

Mega Millions is not the only lottery that maintains historic prizes. Powerball is also going through a long streak without a winner and offers an estimated prize of $600 million for its next drawing on Saturday.

Powerball hasn't had a jackpot winner since May 2, when two tickets sold in Florida and Texas shared a $20 million prize. That result came just days after two other players, in Indiana and Kansas, split a $143.4 million jackpot, marking the first time since 2021 that the game has recorded consecutive jackpot winners.

The $800 million jackpot displaced the $768.4 million Powerball prize from the top 10, won on March 27, 2019 by a player from Wisconsin, who is now ranked 11th.
