Julia Brownley announced that, despite her gratitude to the citizens of Ventura County and Conejo Valley, she has decided that at the end of her term she will not seek reelection as a member of the House of Representatives for California's 26th Congressional District.

“With one more year ahead in my term, “I will continue working every day to deliver results for our region, promote legislation that improves the lives and livelihoods of people in my district and across the country, and defend the values ??and priorities my constituents have entrusted me to uphold,” she wrote in a statement without explaining the reason for her decision. The South Carolina native, who has served as a representative for over a decade, joins more than 40 other members of the House who have opted not to seek reelection in November. “Serving our community and our country has been the honor of my life. Every step of this journey has been shaped by the people I represent, by their resilience, their determination, and their belief that government can and should work for the common good. Together, we have expanded access to affordable health care, strengthened support for veterans and their families, protected our natural resources, tackled the climate crisis, and fought for working families. We have helped thousands of “Voters to navigate the federal government, we have returned millions in earned benefits and have never lost sight of the simple truth that public service is about being there for people when they need help the most,” he said in his message. Brownley also expressed confidence that the Democratic Party will resurge in the next election, diminishing the power of its adversaries in government. "I am especially pleased to leave the House with Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker. I am confident that he will lead Congress with integrity, determination, resolve, and a clear vision for the future. Although I will not be in Congress, "I will continue fighting for a better and brighter future," she emphasized. Following Julia Brownley's announcement, Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin acknowledged that she is considering running for the seat that the 73-year-old will vacate.“I am the most obvious person to run for that position,” she told several members of the press.
