The president of the United States, Donald Trump, reiterated this Saturday his criticism of the immigration policy of European countries and warned about the danger of receiving "criminals" from "Third World countries."

“Europe is learning that, when you welcome Third World criminals, you become a Third World country,” the president wrote on his network, Truth Social, who since his return to power in 2025 has intensified his already harsh anti-immigration approach and openly expressed his differences with European allies.

Trump insisted that this change “happens quickly, in the blink of an eye,” and added: “I was elected just in time!!!” in reference to his repeated claims that with his return to the White House he saved his country from a “migrant invasion.”

Criticism of Europe during the 250th anniversary of the US

In the midst of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States this July 4, the president insisted the day before in front of the emblematic Mount Rushmore in his warnings about “newcomers who do not share the values” of the United States.

Trump and members of his Administration have on several occasions criticized the immigration and environmental policies of European nations, and more recently he has called them “terrible” partners for not having supported him in the war against Iran.

In recent months, his most forceful words have been directed against Spain, Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, whom he reproaches for having denied logistical support to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or access to their military bases at key moments of the conflict with Tehran.

He has also questioned the usefulness of NATO and the sharing of burdens among its members. The Republican, who will participate next week in the Atlantic Alliance summit in Turkey, has said that he will attend the meeting “only out of respect” for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Trump has defined the bloc as a “paper tiger” and has hinted that he is seriously considering withdrawing the US from NATO, even though this would require the approval of Congress.

He has also threatened to impose a 100% tariff on European imports if the European Parliament's proposal to create a common tax on digital multinationals such as Google, Apple, Meta or Amazon, all American, is successful.
