President Donald Trump once again generated controversy after publishing a video made with artificial intelligence in which he appears characterized as a doctor offering a supposed treatment for the so-called “Trump disorder syndrome.” The recording, shared on his social network Truth Social, uses AI-generated versions of various celebrities who have publicly criticized the president.

Celebrities recreated with AI star in satire

In the approximately 90-second video, digital representations of Whoopi Goldberg, Robert De Niro, Julia Roberts, Rosie O'Donnell, Edward Norton and John Leguizamo appear, who at different times have expressed their rejection of Trump.

The recording begins with a question from "Dr. Trump": "Have you or anyone you know been diagnosed with Trump syndrome? The symptoms can be relentless. Fortunately, I am Dr. Trump and I have a treatment plan."

Subsequently, AI versions of celebrities report alleged problems derived from this syndrome. At the end, Trump's character reveals the "treatment":

"Turn off the fake news. Say your prayers, and if you're ever feeling anxious, have a Diet Coke like me and you'll see a noticeable difference in your life."

The origin of the so-called “Trump derangement syndrome”

Trump has for years used the expression “Trump derangement syndrome” to refer disparagingly to his critics. The concept derives from the so-called “Bush derangement syndrome,” coined in 2003 by columnist Charles Krauthammer, who defined it as a disproportionate reaction to the presidency of George W. Bush.

Several of the artists included in the video have had public confrontations with Trump. Robert De Niro, for example, previously called him an “existential threat to our freedoms and our security,” while Whoopi Goldberg even claimed that the Republican sought to become a “dictator for life.” For her part, Julia Roberts participated during the 2024 presidential campaign in a video supporting the female vote promoted by Vote Common Good.
