Chivas would have opened the wallet to steal him Angel Sepulveda to Cruz Azul
Supposedly, Chivas doubled Angel Sepulveda's salary to convince him to leave Cruz Azul, as happened with Luis Romo
Chivas Guadalajara have reportedly opened their wallets seriously to acquire the services of Angel Sepulveda, and the Cruz Azul striker is expected to leave the comfort of the "Cruz Azul" by offering double his salary plus other incentives based on his productivity.
Unofficial reports from sources close to Cruz Azul indicate that Sepulveda's agent convinced the Guadalajara board, headed by Alejandro Manzo, brother-in-law of owner Amaury Vergara, and sporting director Javier Mier, to pay a transfer fee exceeding $3.5 million (approximately $68 million USD).
But that's not all; the offer also included a considerable salary increase for the "Angel of the Goal," whose Cruz Azul salary was around $1 million USD. Now, it will be $2 million USD annually, which, distributed over ten months as is customary for Liga MX players, will result in a monthly salary of $200,000 USD per month (roughly $360,000 MXN per month, net of taxes and fees).
Sepulveda could also increase his salary with performance bonuses. In other words, if he regains the scoring prowess he displayed at Cruz Azul, he would leave Chivas with empty coffers due to the amount they agreed to pay a 34-year-old player who appears to be nearing the end of his career.
The collateral damage of the negotiation
Just like what happened with Luis Romo a year ago. Chivas convinced him to leave Cruz Azul by paying him an exorbitant amount, which the cement company considered outrageous, and now they're once again betting on another player from La Maquina Celeste for the same sum. For this reason, Chivas decided to part ways with high-earning players like Alan Pulido, Alan Mozo, and Erick Gutierrez, as well as Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, to improve their finances and be able to afford Sepulveda's contract.
Angel Baltasar will arrive with the reputation of a star player, and obviously Guadalajara preferred to bet on the veteran and find a place for the young Teun Wilke, who was relegated when coach Gabriel Milito decided to keep Yael Padilla, bring back Ricardo Marin, and promote Armando “Hormiga” Gonzalez with a new contract.
So Chivas' coffers shone with all the dollars they started handling to continue bolstering the project of the Argentine coach Milito.
