Four wildfires, which forced the issuance of evacuation orders and alerts after scorching about 23,000 acres, are close to being completely contained in Southern California.
The Sandy Fires, in Ventura County; Bain and Verona, in Riverside County, and the Santa Rosa, the largest of the four, on the island of the same name off the coast of Southern California, prompted the deployment of thousands of firefighters.
The conflagrations broke out amid conditions that favored their rapid growth, such as high temperatures, low humidity and dry terrain, in addition to being fueled by the intensity of the winds.
