Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera was 21 years old and last Saturday night she was assaulted with a white gun in the city of Cuautla, in the state of Morelos, in the center of the country, about 100 kilometers (less than two hours by car) from Mexico City.
The student from the University of Granada (UGR), who has already expressed her “absolute condemnation” of the crime in an online statement, was at the National Festival of the Medicinal Plant when she was the victim of “a alleged white gun theft,” the local House of Culture, the site where the event was held, said.
The Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), where she was enrolled in Mexico Tacoronte, demanded the state prosecutor’s office “an immediate, comprehensive and with a strict gender perspective investigation to guarantee justice and avoid impunity.”
The student of the University of Granada had a month of exchange in the UAEM, according to the institution in a statement, in which she expressed her condolences to the family and friends of the young woman, her companions and colleagues, the University of Granada, as well as the Government and the Spanish society.
Mexico is a country with high rates of violence against women and in several states all violent deaths of women are initially investigated as feminicide. Subsequently, authorities confirmed or ruled out whether the gender had any relationship with the mobile phone, the AFP news agency said.
The state prosecutor, Fernando Blumenkron, told several journalists that the identity of the aggressor has not yet been determined. "Immediately contacted the Spanish consulate" in that region, he added.
The Consulate General of Spain in Mexico City closely follows the case,ins constant communication with the Mexican judicial authorities working to clarify the circumstances of the young woman's death, and is in contact with her family, EFE reports, citing sources from the Foreign Ministry.
